If the rat is unwell or injured (which?) has it seen a vet? Is it being looked after? A month is an awfully long time to hang on to a clearly stray animal. Rats are intelligent and affectionate and need special care. You could contact the local Rat Fancy (breeders' association) - a vet could help with this and they can put the word out for the owner or a home with someone who knows how to care for rats.

patimac54 - 'Injured or unwell' is one of our preset options for health when you create a report. Also, we've just corrected the date on this report.

The rat only came to me today (she was found Saturday by a council worker) I really cannot tell if the eye problem is by injury or disease just by the look of a cloudy eye. I have significant experience with small mammals and have been looking after her since she came to me 4 hours ago and will continue to do so. She is currently napping and I'm sure you'll be please to know that other than her eye she is seemingly healthy. I work in a veterinary practice and will be taking her in with me tomorrow morning to see if she is microchipped and if there is anything I can do about her eye. As I believe she has an owner, which I am trying to reunite her with I am currently unwilling to switch her to another home.
