Can anybody provide any further description of this cat? Has a vet been informed & the cat checked for microchip?

Hi Chris07, I think this is all the available information. I'm guessing that the cat may still be on the roadside :-(. I'll be driving by there tomorrow so I'll check. Nick

Hello, the cat you found isn't mine, but I am hoping to locate his/her owners. Is the body still there or did you take him/her along to the vets? xxxKindest Regards, Lisa.

I may know who the owner is...I don't want to alarm her until I know for sure. Could you please let me know the whereabouts of this little soul, so that we can eliminate him/her? Thank you...x

Hi FolksI have never found a cat like this before and did not know what to do. I left the animal in the place I have marked on the map, but I drove past today and it has definitely gone. For future reference, what should I have done in these circumstances? It was very sad. x

You did the right thing. Sometimes, if people are in a position to, they might pick up the cat and take it to be scanned by a vet for a microchip. However, having done this for a number of years, you sometimes need a very strong stomach to be able to do it. Sometimes a photo is useful too if an owner is trying to identify their cat, but we don't usually publish photos of dead cats on the site - it can be very upsetting to see. Thanks for taking the time to report it. Nick

Thank you for your reply Giantmousie...the cat in question sounds very much to me like one that has been missing a few weeks now...she was also a Tortie wearing a red collar. Unfortunately, now the body has gone, I dare not inform the possible owner, as we have no way of identifying her.The best thing to do in these situations is to take the cat/dog to your nearest vets (or if you find it too distressing get someone who could do it for you) so that the animal can be scanned for a microchip. This service is free. The veterinary service will also keep the body for about a week, in case it's owners come forward. Please don't blame yourself, it's a very upsetting time to come across an animal that has passed away. Could I possibly send a pic of the cat that i think it could be to you? Maybe then you would know if it is her. You can find me on Facebook Lisa West lisawest360@yahoo.co.uk. I could then send the pic across to you. Is that ok? I am really hoping it is not the one in question, but I feel it could be. At least her owner would have closure. xxx

Hi Lisa, I have looked at the pic but I couldn't say for certain. The cat I found was small, very neat looking, and a short-haired chocolate tortie. The one in the 'lost' picture looks much blonder and larger, but this could just be the angle of the photo. I am so sorry not to be more helpful. The collar was red, felt/velvet material and quite worn. The cat looked really well cared for. Apologies again.

Thank you for getting back to me Giantmousie...I have another pic which shows the collar close up and another angle of the cat....https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=10154008442110565&set=pcb.10154008442485565&type=1&theaterThis link may not work, if it doesn't could I send the pic via Facebook or e-mail?Her owner really needs closure, and the collar you described seems to be that of Lilys. I am so scared to break the news to her. xxx

Hi GemmaSorry to say the collar in the picture does look like the one on the cat I saw. Do the council remove animals found like this, and if so is there any way of finding out from them? I can't have been the only person to see it, it was just laying in the grass right by the road. In fact I stopped and went back because I thought it might just be injured. So sorry for your friend.x

Hello Giantmouse...I had a feeling it was Lily. Someone has also posted on Spotted:Abingdon that she had driven past the cat. Unfortunately, it will probably be too late to track down her little body, but I have e-mailed South Oxford Council to see if there is any chance of having her body returned. Thank you for this closure. I will inform the owner. Rest in peace dear sweet Lily.

Unbelievably, the cat described here was not Lily after all. They were so very similar and were even wearing the same colour/texture collar.Luckily, the cats little body was reunited with her owners and they managed to collect her and take her home. She was from Wick Close in Abingdon. Lily continues to be missing. Her details can be found on this site.xxx
