I contacted Marjorie Nash and was told they could help trap but not until the new year but the cat is now being fed and has shelter. It is timid so will need to be trapped. Be assured that as soon as I am able we will get it to my vets to scan for a chip.

Our black cat, Spike, has been missing since 5 February 2022 from Chesham. He's quite timid and is pure black apart from a few isolated white hairs on his chest. He is neutered and microchipped. If you contact the Cats Protection League (Chiltern) they will help you trap it and do a chip check.

I will try the cats protection tomorrow in case they can do it sooner.

Have you been able to get the cat to a vet to check if its microchipped?

Not yet. I have made progress in that I can be in the same space as it and touch it briefly but not able to pick it up as it is so nervous.

I am hoping Isomeone with a hand scanner can come at some point.

Sounds like some progress. If Cats Protection, or other charities, are unable to help I do have a humane cat trap which you are welcome to borrow. Its the same as that used by animal charities, perfectly safe and has been used in numerous similar situations. If successful will enable you to take the cat to a vet to check for a microchip. If you would like to chat about this do give me a ring on 07836 786043, no commitment to borrow but I can explain more. I live locally.

Sounds a good plan. I am feeding the cat twice a day in the greenhouse where it has a bed and a little heat but not shut it as it went ballistic when I tried that so it can come and go as it wants. I will give it another week and hopefully I will get nearer. The thing that bothers me is that if I take it to the vet and there is not a chip I will have to bring it back here and let it go so it would be far more nervous the second time round whereas the charity would take it in if there is no microchip but they are full. I have your number - thank you.p

Yes space with the animal charities is difficult at the moment. I am checking with South Bucks RSPCA for you re space for which I am a volunteer. If there's no space I agree that trapping can make a cat more nervous. A hand held scanner (if you can get near enough) would indeed be a good idea. My offer stands re the cat trap or if you would like to chat this through. Do you have your own cats? And do they get on with the visitor?

I have an elderly house cat. THe visitor is living in one of my greenhouses.

ideally I need a hand scanner but cannot guarantee when black cat is in the greenhouse. I will work it out. My number is 01494 721732.

Today, I have been contacted and offered the use of a hand held scanner sometime in the next few days and the possibility of a foster placement. . Brilliant news.
