If the cat is approachable is there any chance you can make a paper collar, and put that on the cat to see if he is going home. And if the cat comes at specific times, we can arrange to come and check him for a microchip one evening. We are volunteers for a group on Facebook called *fluffys lost and found pets in Ashford Kent, so we come out for free, basically as an alternative if your unable to get him to a vets for a chip check x

Hi Jen, thanks for the reply/suggestions... at this stage I can only get within 10 feet of this cat -I feed him a handful of dry food when he turns up (which he scoffs) I will attempt to make friends/stroke him etc. over the next couple of visiits (strangely he hasn't yet arrived this evening?) If I can gain his confidence then i'll give the paper collar a try, failing that the microchip scan would be worth arranging. thanks for your help, will keep you informed - John

Hey John, no worries and no rush, keep doing what your doing and just give me a shout when you think your at that stage even if I just show you how to use the scanner and leave you with our spare one for a few days so you or the little lad don't feel pressurized (although that ones out on loan at moment so I'll sort out getting it back and charged) I'll give you a shout if anyone comments on our Facebook group :)

HI Jen, just a quick update regards black/white cat.. following last message he visited a couple of times and I was feeding him twice daily, he virtually stayed in my garden for 3 days, I was at the point whereby I could stroke him (only whilst he was feeding!) and was about to contact you regards borrowing the chip detector.. However, he has not now visited for last 5 or 6 days? will let you know if he returns.. thanks - John

Update: this cat now castrated (4 weeks ago) still no sign/contact of original owners! I am currently looking after this cat on a temporary basis (I am unable to look after him permanently) He still wanders off from time to time (one or two days then returns) I was feeding him outside and he was sleeping in a kennel (my cats kennel!) over the last fortnight I have allowed him indoors (kitchen) and so far he has not put a `paw' wrong. However, I have to put him out when I go to work and at night and he is not happy -gets upset miaowing etc. He has come on `leaps and bound' over the past 3 months.. He`s rediscovered his purr and enjoys being stroked/fussed etc. rolls around and has a game and is clean and pretty much domesticated. This cat would make an ideal pet for older person/couple wanting a cat for company and able to give him the time/stability he needs. So if anyone knows of anyone looking for such a cat please get in touch.. could easily arrange a visit to meet him (he`s quite a character!) thanks - John
