I saw Misty for the first time yesterday. She has been hiding under the floor of a neighbour's wood shed. I set up a trail camera to observe the hole she is getting in and out of, and she seems fit and healthy. But, if I get too close, she dashes back into her hiding place. There are a few foxes round here and I don't know if she has been frightened by them, but it's most unlike her to avoid me. I guess we'll just have to be patient in coaxing her back to the house. Thank you for all your comments. but it

Hello, your vet or a local animal charity may be able to lend you a cat trap to help bring Misty home? She'll be panicked at being in an unfamiliar environment but should be tempted by a bit of salmon or her favourite food. My vet did this for me some years ago, when my indoor cat escaped and it worked quite quickly.

Good idea, but I left some food out for Misty a few days ago, and when I went out an hour later, I found a young fox eating it all and its mother prowling around in the vicinity. I can't imagine how Misty would react if she was caught in a trap with the foxes all around her.

She'd be perfectly safe in a trap and you'd soon be able to get her back. My cat who went missing was extremely timid, but recovered completely, once she'd been caught and brought back home to familiar surroundings. Speak to the Cats' Protection people at Chelwood Gate, they'd be able to advise you.
