FOUND
Name: Unknown
Breed & Species: Unknown cat
Colour: Ginger
Found: 10 years ago
(06 June 2014 at around 22:00hrs)
Location: Western By-Pass Road, Oxford, Oxfordshire OX2 8PR, UK
Health: Deceased
Age: 8 years old
Sex: Unknown
Collar: No
Microchipped: Not sure
Markings: Youngish looking ginger short hair with thin white lines in coat.
Circumstances: I'm so sorry but I hit this cat whilst driving on the A34 northbound, in between the 50 mph Botley speed restricted area and the Kiddlington exit. The cat was crossing from the central reservation west bound towards the verge. It all happened very quickly, the cat did not suffer and I doubled back to see if there was anything I could do but without going into details there was nothing I could do and I'm sad to say the cat is no longer alive. Am very sorry.

Do you have the cat or was it left by the road? I'd like to see it to identify if it was ours. Thank you.

Dear TWedin - sadly not, I was doing 60 mph and it all happened in a flash. I'm sure the cat didn't suffer as it was very quick. Unfortunately the A34 is a very busy road and it was dark at the time as well, so by the time I doubled back many other cars had passed the same spot. I am an animal lover myself and quite upset by what happened. I have a good memory and a vivid impression of the cat in my headlights the instant before we collided. If you'd like to direct me to a photo of your cat I might be able to help as its difficult to describe its markings in any more detail ... I only saw the left hand side of its body as it passed from right to left in front of my car towards the verge, no patches of white on the left hand side of its body just a uniform ginger colour with faint whispy white lines laced through the ginger coat. Feel free to ask me more and I'll do my best to help if I can.

Thank you, it must have been awful for you, I hit a pheasant the other day, had to pull over out of shock and have a good cry! I can only imagine how bad it feels to hit a cat, and I really empathise with you. I have photos, but not sure how to post them here. If you email me at wedin12tc@gmail.com, I will send some to you, so you can see if you think it is Toffee. We're located in Wolvercote, and he disappeared a good few months ago - actually, it wasn't the first time, he's been living with other families intermittently, even to the point where we let one family a couple of roads down adopt him as he seemed so settled there, and their kids really adored him. They had him neutered and vaccinated only for him to go wandering again a week or so later, and they haven't seen him since. It would be good to know if it is him.
