Hi there. I live on Windmill Rd in Headington. Last night, I heard my cats raising a huge racket downstairs. When I went down to investigate, they were in the process of running outside - I saw a little tabby cat in the back garden - I think he/she had ventured into the house before being chased out by my cats. I couldn't get a better look as he/she ran off, but he/she looked like a friendly soul who really wanted to come into the house for a cuddle, or I suspect, food. Sorry I can't be more specific, but if I see him/her again, I will try to get a better look and let you know.

Hi Alexander, many thanks for contacting me. Gruff would probably appear to be a tabby in the dark. He is very vocal in the company of other cats. However, he's a large cat long limbed and long spined, his tail is 15" long, but he is very thin due to his chronic pancreatitis. I am so grateful to you for your concern.

Could this be your cat https://www.facebook.com/groups/fabulousfarmoor/ which we found yesterday?

We will be taking the cat we found to the vet this afternoon to see if he is microchipped so will be in touch if he is yours.

Hi Lucy, many thanks for taking the Bengal boy to the vet. We were overjoyed when the Cat Clinic contacted us with the good news but sadly, having got him home, we are fairly sure he's not Gruff. Do you know if his microchip was checked? Look forward to hearing from you and again many thanks

Oh dear we wrote at same time. Anyway, the vet scanned the cat for a microchip and said it was yours so perhaps you could get someone else to try? I believe they have to phone somewhere to verify the reference number it gives...? She was away a long time checking the number so presumably she did phone whoever it is that the chip tells them to phone or whatever?

Hi Lucy thanks that's very helpful, I was sure that would have been the case. I wonder if the Cat Clinic had 2 Bengal boys in when we went to collect him and the nurse gave us the wrong cat? We'll be in touch with the Cat Clinic first thing tomorrow and will keep you posted. Meanwhile we are giving a very nice cat our best love and care.

Just to update you, we took him to our local vet whos scanned and identified him in about 2 minutes. He's Kenji from Surrey so likely stolen, well done you for what you did. The Cat Clinic are red faced, they eventually had to admit they did not scan him.

So sorry for getting your hopes up. I did what you are supposed to do, shame the vets didn't do the same. At least there should be one happy owner as there's no way he would make his way home from Oxfordshire to there.

No way was it your fault our hopes were raised. You deserve praise for the care and trouble you went to, it was absolutely the right thing. Best wishes, Jo.

Of course we all want to know how long Kenji has been missing. It may give some hope that there are nice people out there who will do the right thing so yours may turn up - you hear stories of long travelled pets don't you? All the best, Lucy

Gruff had pancreatitis when he disappeared without his daily medication we believe he is most probably dead.
