Excellent news that you have been reunited. I don't know what type of carrier you have but the top loading metal ones are the best which are securely fixed with a sliding metal bar. It is why all the specialist referral vets use them. Most cats that escape from baskets in my experience with cat rescues, are from side opening baskets and unsecured plastic carriers where the plastic catches are either not securely fastened or broken. I hope that Maven assisted you in being re-united and advised about cat baskets if appropriate in this case.
