Hi there, if you could manage to get the cat to a vets they will check for a chip for free for you, posting on Facebook also really helps. Failing that, if you Google 'scan angels', they are a team of people who will send someone in your area to check the cat for a microchip for free, they're brilliant. West midlands stray dat rescue are also great, they're on Facebook, also lost and found cats west midlands are on Facebook, tfey are fantastic if you can post on their Facebook site. Poor thing, i do hope you have some luck, thankyou for trying to help him x
