Thanks for taking the time to post this. Obviously not pleasant, but it may help to bring closure to the owner instead of forever searching and wondering. :(

You said you found it in your garden — did you do anything with it? If you hand it in to a vet, they will be able to check it for a microchip. Or you can find a Scan Angel online, which is someone that'll come out with a scanner to check the cat. If it's chipped then the owner can be found.

Yes the Bengal was taken to the vets yesterday in the hope that it was chipped. I have not heard since.

Deceased cat taken to vets to investigate for a chip. No news from vet as to whether owners were found.
