I took the tortoise to my local vets to check for a microchip. There was no chip but the vet said they could keep her, check her over for injuries etc., then hand her to the RSPCA for fostering and eventual rehoming. I was just leaving the vets and the receptionist came out to the car park to say the owner had just called (FB is a wonderful thing!) and the tortoise's name is Georgina and she escaped at the weekend. She was very happy to be reunited. She even dropped round 2 jars of their locally produced honey to say thank you! A happy outcome for all.
